Increase In Non-Fatal Occupational Injuries Among Healthcare Workers

Recently, a news release was issued by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) revealing a startling new development.  In 2010, the injury rate for healthcare support workers rose by 6%, almost 2½ times the rate for all private and public sector workers.  The rate among nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants rose by 7%.  A particular type of injury, one considered musculoskeletal in nature, actually rose by 10% among these very same workers.

Thankfully, OSHA is not just providing numbers, but they are taking action.  According to the same news release, in the next several months OSHA will be launching a new program which will focus on improving the safety and health for workers’ at nursing home facilities across the country.
