Recent change to BWC’s prescription policy

As many of us know, the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) will take it upon itself to change its policies from time to time.  The most recent change? A decision that the BWC will no longer pay for skeletal muscle relaxants such as Skelaxin and Soma.  What can be done about this?  Nothing.  That’s right, nothing.  The BWC has the right to change its policy regarding payment of medications at any time.

So, what do you do if you are an injured worker that is taking one of these medications?  You have two options. Option #1, you can continue to take the medication and simply pay for it out of pocket (not sure this is a feasible option for most).  Option #2, you can talk to your physician about prescribing a different medication, one that the BWC will in fact cover.

Please remember, if you ever have any questions, concerns, or issues regarding your workers’ compensation claim, the law firm of Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer is here to help.  You can contact us locally at 419-843-2001, toll free at 1-800-352-1976, or even send an e-mail to esq@gallonlaw.com.
