The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall Tuesday of more than 90,000 General Electric Co. (GE) air conditioners and heaters, stating that electrical malfunction in the units pose a fire hazard.
The heaters and air conditioners, manufactured in Japan and China and distributed by GE, were sold under the name “GE Zoneline.” General Electric authorized representatives and HVAC distributors sold the units nationwide from March 2010 through March 2011 for between $1,000 and $1,200.
To date GE is cooperating with the recall. And while only four incidents of malfunction have been reported consumers should immediately stop using the air conditioning and heating units and contact General Electric to schedule a free repair.
